The Sailor Profit Jr. is a set that has everything you need to get started. The set consists of the Yurameku Kitsune Biyori calligraphy fountain pen, a converter and a 10ml color matching ink bottle of Yurameku ink. 

The fountain pen is designed with iridescent pearl resin following the colors of the inks. The color is perceptible to change over time, enhancing the ink's mysterious nature that shows glimpses of different shades of color.

The fountain pen is fitted with a stainless steel Fude nib that enables bold strokes that better showcase Yurameku ink's shading nature. This is because the the Fude nib offers freedom of strokes from bold to fine depending on the writing angle.

The Naginat 21 carat gold nib is specially designed with a larger pen point with a longer stroke that provide ultimate smoothness. The nib provides broader strokes on the horizontal and finer stroke on the vertical. Also, the Naginata nib provides writing line-widths much broader than would normally be expected. The finest and smoothest nib that can be used without applying pen pressure.

Ebonite is renowned as the world's oldest artificial resin, a hard rubber like material. It is a black-brown rubber with a rich luster, and was named after "Ebony" because of its appearance. Although difficult to process, it is a traditional material for fountain pen which has excellet ink corrosion resistance. Originally it is jet black, and the more you use it, the more subtle the panita will develop.

Iro-Miyabi

The value of lacquerware was established in the Nara and Heian periods as a symbol of wealth in aristocratic society and a beautiful embodiment of the world of Shintoism and Buddhism, and colored lacquer has developed along with it. 

The beauty and profoundness of Japanese traditions, and the lacquerware that enriches and inspires people, are the reasons why the pen barrel is finished in colored lacquer and named the traditional lacquer "Iro-Miyabi" series.

Kaga-Nuri

"Kaga-Nuri" (also called "Yamanaka-Nuri") is a traditional craft which originated in Kaga city, Ishikawa. In de Edo era, Kaga-nuri was used for tableware or furniture on which beautiful Urushi and Maki-e designs were applied.

Miyabi-Nuri

A rich expression is created by taking lacquer on a silk cloth and stroking it. The pattern is expressed by using base color lacquer and special lacquer so that it does not stand out strongly and expresses a sense of fineness. In addition, pure gold and silver powders are gently sprinkled on the surface of the lacquer.

Fukaki-Ake

A noble color since the Asuka period. Madder red and purple are cross-dyed. It was a dyeing method that required many processes.

The fountain pen is equipped with a rhodium plated, bicolor, 21-karat golden nib. The pen is available in our store and webshop in a medium nib. The pen comes with a paulowina box, which is extremely suitable for the storage of lacquer products. It is complimented by the addition of a Sanada-strap which is commonly used in Japanese tea ceremonies.

The annual release of Sailor's colored ebonite series this year is 'SYOKEI', which means Admiration. The body color is inspired by "Tsurebiki", a masterpiece by Harunobo Suzuki, known for his beautiful doll-like portrayal of people in his "Ukiyoe" woodblock print art. He mixed chalk to express neutral colors, giving his art a lyrical and fantastical touch. Admiring "Tsurebiki", Sailor brought his style to life in SYOKEI's color theme by lavishing layers of colored ebonite on to the fountain pen's body.

The Urushi artist, Wayo Shimamori has developed the ‘Irogasane Sabinuri’ technique to create the 88 pieces of each color worldwide.

This writing instrument is inspired by special spiritual concepts from ancient Japan.
‘Wabi’ is the feeling in the heart of calmness, of quiet, and of simple appearance.
‘Sabi’ is the visual beauty of things humble, unconventional, and unrefined. The beauty of Ageing and the continuous cycle of Life.
‘Wabi Sabi’ combines the spirit and concepts of both these values.


What makes the Wabi Sabi pens extraordinary is the special attention to detail in the process of crafting the writing instruments by hand. At first, a Urushi undercoat is applied. When the layer has dried, its suface is polished until smooth and thereafter the Sabi layer is applied. This is polished and applied again to create the illusion of roughness. Lastly, several more layers of Urushi are applied and polished for color and a metallic look.

The pen comes in a beautiful wooden box with converter, ink cartridges, duster and certificate. The pen has a large 21kt gold nib, available in sizes Medium or Broad.
